JOE AQUILINA
21.10.1938 – 11.6.2007
Joseph Aquilina, born in Siggiewi Malta on 21st October 1938 was the son of Nicholas & Therese. He married Angela on 24th November 1963 and together emigrated to Australia arriving in Sydney on a Qantas flight on 19th January 1964. With only £19 to start with, they worked hard in the hope of making a good life for themselves, which they achieved. They and Angela were married for 43 years. Joe (as he was known) worked at Rozelle Hospital for 34 years where he eventually became a nursing unit manager.
Joe was a good, kind, honest and caring man not only to his family but also to his patients and others who needed assistance, whether it was helping to fill out documents, finding them services, assisting migrants with the English language, driving them to where they needed to be or just to listen to them, providing comfort and support especially to the Maltese elderly whom he regularly visited in Nursing Homes.
Joe Aquilina also served as Justice of the Peace in NSW for many years. On recommendation by the Maltese Welfare (NSW) Inc in 2002, Joe received the Premiers Award in recognition of his outstanding service to the Maltese community and general community in New South Wales.
Joe had a great sense of humour and his family can now relate many occasions where he would make them laugh hysterically.
On the 11th June 2007, Joe passed away peacefully at Westmead Hospital in Sydney NSW. His funeral was held on Friday 15th June at Our Lady Queen of Peace Parish Church in Greystanes, NSW. May he rest in peace.

Fil-11 ta’ Ġunju 2007 kellna l-mewt tal-kollega tagħna Joseph Aquilina ta’ 69 sena minn Greystanes NSW, bin Nicholas u Theresa mis-Siġġiewi. Joseph Aquilina kien attiv ferm mal-Maltese Welfare (NSW) Inc u serva bħala Kaxxier fis-snin 1997/99.
Dejjem kien jgħin lill-ħutu fil-bżonnijiet tagħhom. Kien magħruf sewwa għax-xogħol voluntarju tiegħu fin-naħat ta’ Greystanes. Kien ilu miżżewweġ lil Angela għal 43 sena.
Joseph Aquilina wasal l-Awstralja fl-1964 u dam jaħdem f’Rozelle Hospital għal 34 sena fejn spiċċa bħala Nursing Unit Manager.
Kien għamel xi żmien kaxxier tal-Lyceum Old Boys ta’ Sydney.
Fis-sena 2002, Joseph Aquilina ġie mogħti għarfien mistħoqq meta rċieva in-NSW Premier Award għax-xogħol tiegħu fil-qasam tal-voluntarjat. Joseph kien innominat għal dan il-premju mill-Maltese Welfare (NSW) Inc.
Aħna li ħdimna miegħu tlifna ħabib kbir, bniedem sinċier u karittativ li dejjem offra s-servizzi tiegħu bla ma talab xejn lura. Mulej agħtih il-mistrieħ ta’ dejjem.
